Ruffer and Miss Lindsay welcome our dear friend Lindsay Meehan of Mary Hall’s Music for Children for an extra special morning of musical fun! For infants & toddlers (under 3 yrs).
Owl Nature Story with a Special Owl Guest
WHOOO will join us for an extra special story time? Owls are our favorite creatures here in the Children’s Library, so we are very excited that the Audubon Society of Rhode Island will be stopping by to share a story and a visit with a real live owl! Ages 3+.
RISD Illustration Stars
Each year RISD illustration majors spend a semester in a remarkable class called Picture and Word. For their final project, each student must present a picture book – the story, illustrations, design, and construction. It is a labor of love, and the results are delightful. Now these students have a chance to share their stories with you at an afternoon reading. It’s a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be inspired by their work and learn about the creative process!
Judy Sue Goodwin Sturges and author April Prince are the guiding hands behind the Picture and Word course that has produced some of our favorite award-winning authors and illustrators. Ages 5+ (adults welcome, too!).
PCFF: Let’s Get Animated
Animation is magic! Giving materials the illusion of having life through drawing, stop-motion, and CGI can be extraordinary. Stories on this year’s reel include old family photos come to life; a humble constellation weaver snapped up by a sky serpent; and a film that makes blowing out birthday candles something to think about. Plus more!
All Ages / Multi-national / in English or w/English subtitles / 70 mins
Valentine Craft Workshop
It’s doilies galore here in the Children’s Library where we’ll have lots of fun, Valentine-making materials for you to create a one-of-a-kind Valentine card for someone special! All ages.
Roger Williams Zoomobile: Project Cover-up
Hot weather, cold weather, rain, or snow – how do animals protect themselves in their various environments? The RWP Zoomobile will bring some of their animal friends to our Children’s Library to tell us about animal cover-ups! Ages 3+
Lunar New Year Dragon Puppet Craft
The Lunar New Year is right around the corner, and this one is extra special because it’s the Year of the Dragon! In honor of this noble beast, the Children’s Library is hosting a special workshop where you can assemble and decorate your own colorful dragon puppet. Ages 5+.
Winnie-the-Pooh Picnic & Family Matinee
What could be more fun than enjoying an afternoon of animated adventures with Winnie-the-Pooh in the Athenæum’s Children’s Library, while enjoying some of Pooh’s favorite “smackerels” (a smackeral is Pooh’s word for a snack – usually, but not always, a honey snack!). Ages 3+.
