SALON: Brad Gooch on his new book Rumi’s Secret: The Life of the Sufi Poet of Love.

Brad Gooch, the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of Smash Cut, Flannery, and City Poet delivers the first biography of Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet, revered by contemporary Western readers. Rumi’s Secret: The Life of the Sufi Poet of Love tells the tale of a man whose life stretched over 2,500 miles in a time and place in the world as rife with conflict as our own today. In the centuries following his death, Rumi’s poetry became an influential literary force and collected translations of his works have sold millions of copies around the world. Gooch explores Rumi’s reflections on the complexities and mysteries of life, inspiring tolerance and beauty through the power of poetry.

Brad Gooch is the author of the acclaimed biographies City Poet and Flannery: A Life of Flannery O’Connor, as well as other nonfiction and three novels. A recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities and Guggenheim fellowships, he earned his Ph.D. at Columbia University and is Professor of English at William Paterson University in New Jersey.
