Little Women Book Group: Part 1

To celebrate the arrival of our new Louisa May Alcott bust at the library, we are revisiting her timeless story, Little Women. This intergenerational reading group will bring together children and their grown-up companions to read, think about, and discuss Alcott’s most famous work over two months. Guided discussion will be oriented toward the group’s younger members and focus on personal and creative engagement with the story. All meetings will take place over Zoom.

Reading Schedule (attendees should commit to both dates)
Sunday, October 4th 2-3:30pm We will discuss Part 1 of Little Women (Ch 1-23)
Sunday, November 1st 2-3:30pm We will discuss Part 2 of Little Women (remaining chapters)

The book group will be led by staff member Juli Anna Herndon and former staff member Amanda Knox.

Juli Anna J. Herndon is the Executive Assistant at the Providence Athenæum. She is also a writer and her poetry and reviews have been published in Dogwood, DASH, New Millennium Writings, Literary Mama, and several anthologies. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College and an MLIS from San Jose State University, and loves connecting with people of all ages over books.

Amanda M. Knox is the Assistant Archivist at Brown University's Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women. Prior to that, she enjoyed 6 years behind the Athenæum's circulation desk. She earned a BA in History from Salem State University in 2013 and later earned an MA in history and an MLIS from Simmons College in 2018. She has loved Little Women since she first read it in 2007 and has visited Orchard House on more than one occasion.
