Clay Risen is a senior editor at The New York Times and the author, most recently, of "The Crowded Hour: Theodore Roosevelt, the Rough Riders and the Dawn of the American Century," which the Washington Post called "a gripping tale" and the New York Times named one of its 100 notable books of 2019. He is also the author of two previous books on American history, "The Bill of the Century: The Epic Battle for the Civil Rights Act" and "A Nation on Fire: America in the Wake of the King Assassination," as well as two guidebooks about whiskey, "Single Malt: A Guide to the Whiskeys of Scotland" and "American Whiskey, Bourbon and Rye: A Guide to the Nation's Favorite Spirit," which has sold more than 100,000 copies.
