The Sayles Gorham Children’s Library holds a diverse collection of illustrated children’s books consisting of classic fiction, folk and fairy tales from around the world, popular fiction, series fiction, graphic novels, non-fiction, reference, and periodicals for children. Non-print formats include DVDs and unabridged audiobooks on CD.
The Young Adult Collection
For those who have moved beyond the children’s space, the Young Adult alcove boasts a rich selection of more mature titles as well as periodicals, audiobooks on CD, and DVDs. A wonderful cozy chair provides space for quiet reading.
Also available for special permission borrowing are books from the Raven Room collection. These items are old favorites from the early-to-mid-twentieth century.
Our non-circulating Old Juvenile collection consists of rare and first edition juvenile titles in all genres dating from the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, including an 1869 first edition of Little Women and an 1853 first edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Tanglewood Tales. Selections from this collection can be accessed by appointment and viewed in the library.
