The Providence Athenæum is delighted to celebrate 11 years as an original partner and supporter of the nationally known Providence Children’s Film Festival, and we hope you will join us for the best shows in town during this year’s festival!

There will be two screenings: Magic Carpet Ride 2020 at 10:30am and A Night at the Opera at 1pm. To attend both screenings, please make sure to register for each.

This Athenæum screening is admission-free. Ticket reservations strongly encouraged. A small number of unreserved seats will be available for each show. We advise arriving early and allowing extra time for parking, as unoccupied pre-reserved seats will be released to walk-in patrons 15 minutes before screenings start. Enter at the College Street side door.

FILM SCREENING 1: Magic Carpet Ride 2020, 10:30am-12pm

Jump on the PCFF magic carpet and get ready to ride! We will explore the cinematic wonders of the world from eight different countries. No genie needed! The stories include giraffes trying to teach an aspiring elephant how to properly shoot a basketball, three dogs living with a colorful flair, and a cat trying to un-duck his beach blanket. This year’s reel will transport you from as close as New York City to as far away as Germany.

Recommended for all ages. Running time: 72 mins.

FILM SCREENING 2: A Night at the Opera, 1-2:45pm

As an extra special afternoon treat, PCFF is sharing this year’s classic feature film. It’s black and white, with no animation or CGI – just a heaping helping of hilarious sight gags, slapstick, and lots of cheeky banter. What could be better than to spend A Night at the Opera with the amazing Marx Brothers?
