The American Civil Liberties Union of RI (ACLU) and the Athenæum invite you to celebrate the power of freedom and the written word during the 37th annual Banned Books Week. Athenæum Executive Director Matt Burriesci, RI Poet Laureate Tina Cane, poet Colin Channer, author Vikki Warner, and Rhode Island Writers Colony’s John Stephenson will read from their favorite banned books.

Since 1959 the ACLU of RI has worked to protect the civil liberties of all Rhode Islanders via litigation, lobbying and public education. The organization has handled more than 600 court cases, lobbied at the State House on virtually every bill that would impact civil liberties, and held education and outreach events for the public.
