Lippitt House has been an East Side landmark for 150 years. A reflection of the great wealth created in 19th century Providence from manufacturing, it is the epitome of Victorian design and sensibilities. But what relevancy does the building have today in our post-industrial age? Lippitt House Museum director Carrie Taylor, who arrived from Monticello two years ago, will discuss new ways to examine and interpret everything from the material culture of a house to its family history in order to allow its identity to evolve from a silent, preserved artifact to a relevant voice with something to tell us today. Join us for a conversation about the evolving role of the house museum as a resource for engaging the local community.
