RISD's Fleet Library

One Membership: Two Libraries

If you aren't visiting RISD's Fleet Library, then you are only making use of half of your Athenaeum membership.

Located just a few blocks from the Athenaeum (Just head straight down College Street), the Fleet Library houses a wonderous collection of materials in an architecturally stunning building.

• Only Household and Individual Athenaeum Members are eligible to use the Fleet Library.
• Up to five items can be borrowed from the Fleet at a time
• Audiovisual materials cannot be checked out

History

Founded in 1878, the RISD Library is one of the oldest art college libraries in the United States.

Its unique collection is built around subjects such as architecture, art, photography, and design.

Fleet Building

The Fleet Library is housed in the former building of Rhode Island Hospital Trust bank.

The massive banking hall with its vaulted ceiling serves as the library's main reading room.

The library abounds with cozy reading nooks, plush chairs, and media viewing rooms where the library's extensive collection of DVDs can be watched.
